Verizon Wireless to cut 13,000 more jobs

After putting up a $653 million Q4 loss, Verizon Communications, Inc. announced yesterday that they will be cutting 13,000 jobs this year. At this time one year ago, they were boasting a fourth quarter profit of $1.24 billion.

Bob Varettoni, a Verizon spokesman:

“We have reduced headcount in many ways: by reducing the number of contractors we use, by offering enhanced incentive separation packages, attrition, and other means. Any layoffs were kept to a minimum because of these measures.”

Varettoni also added that the layoffs will not be specific to any certain geographic region.

Well, at least they aren’t being discriminatory.
