Go green, buy a Hummer?

So we heard last week that Raser would be showing off their new hybrid SUV at the Detroit SAE Conference. According to the report from hotstocked.com, Raser’s latest creation would satisfy the needs of drivers across the board, as it was able to keep the truck powerful and green:

“The four-wheel drive vehicle that was developed with the help of FEV, Inc. and an unnamed global automaker is said to be capable of almost zero greenhouse gas emissions, while recharging after every 40-mile distance. It also features Raser Technology’s high-tech 200 kilowatt Symetron Enhanced AC induction motor and drive system which helps to recharge the lithium-ion battery packs and to slow down the vehicle. The company also claimed that the induction motor which is directly connected to the transmission will provide the vehicle with incomparable torque and rate of velocity accession, while it does not compromise its 4-wheel drive performance.”

However, news comes today that Raser will be taking yet another step to paint the American gas-guzzling image green. America, meet the Hybrid Hummer.

Yes, you read it right. According to MotorAuthority, Raser’s newest hybrid SUV will be using the Hummer H2 as a platform.

Basically, Raser Technologies will be using their E-REV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle) as a platform that will allow the consumer to drive up to 40 miles per day on electricity alone. After the 40 mile charge is expired, “petrol in a small four-cylinder combustion engine connected to the electric motor will generate electricity, much the same way that the Volt does”.

Raser Technologies is working in conjunction with powertrain company FEV and its new E-REV is being designed for application in any number of large vehicles, including SUVs and light trucks.

Since many companies are already developing their own electric vehicles, this technology may not be used for consumer applications across the board. But, commercially speaking, this technology may end up being a hit as many businesses who need to run large vehicles in their fleets, will also be looking to cut costs and be seen doing environmentally positive things. To date, Raser Technologies has already inked a contract with Pacific Gas & Electric to supply that company with two E-REV trucks
