Electric Rolls Royce should be on the way

Richard Carter, company spokesman for Rolls Royce, announced at the Goodwood festival that it is very likely for an electric Rolls Royce Phantom to appear in the future. Well, let me clarify.

Carter said that the Phantom would be the “ideal candidate” for an electric version as the model is large enough to accommodate all the gear required by an electric Rolls Royce Phantom, including batteries and powertrain.
The Phantom is further a viable option for an electric version as the engines have low noise levels that offer high power from low revs.

Nonetheless, I have heard rumblings about a Rolls Royce electric Phantom, in that, the model is usually linked to longer distances. To me this made a lot of sense, as one doesn’t pull out their Phantom to drive down the block for some eggs. Such a big powerful car would likely drain a ton of power from a battery and the last thing that someone who bought the car would want is to have to get their Phantom towed.

Lastly, although technical details of the electric Rolls Royce Phantom are not currently available, it’s expected the company will borrow technology from BMW and their EfficientDynamics program.
